Meet the Team
Carolyn & Jerry Fritsch
Carolyn is a native of Greene, Iowa. She has been involved in ELCA Outdoor Ministry for 24+ years... beginning with her college years as a counselor at EWALU in Strawberry Point, Iowa. She served as the Development Director at Ingham Okoboji for seventeen years. In 2005 she and Jerry were called to become the Executive Directors of Lutheran Lakeside Camp. They share a passion for outdoor ministry with youth and families. Carolyn loves to give tours of the camp and believes that Lakeside is a marvelous tool for developing Christian relationships with each other and God the Creator, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.
Carolyn and Jerry met at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa where they shared the photos of summer camp and the special place camp held in their lives. They had often talked about directing a camp in the early years of their marriage. After college Carolyn taught in Grundy Center, Iowa and Indianapolis, Indiana. She aslo served as a resource consultant for the Lutheran Resource Center in Clear Lake, Iowa and as a publicity director for the College of Saint Teresa in Winona, Minnesota.
The Fritsches have two grown sons and three grandsons. Much of their "free time" is spent enjoying their grandsons and attending sports activities and taking them to music lessons.
Jerry is a native of Chicago, Illinois and worked for Chicago Boys Clubs Camps. He spent forty years as a clinical social worker as well as in social work administration and professor of Social Work at Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa and Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa. He had a short stint as a clinical private practice before being called to Lutheran Lakeside Camp.
Jerry was a Lakeside board member in the early 1990s so returning to camp was a lifelong dream. His love for the outdoors and fun makes him a natural for another life adventure. His experiences at Lutheran Social Service of Iowa (LSI) prepared him for working with congregations throughout the state. Heading up church related family and children's service agency in Minnesota added to his administrative skills.
Jerry focuses on goofing around with his two sons and three grandsons who live nearby. At Lakeside his time is spent on policy and procedures, public relations, and marketing, and anything else Carolyn would like him to do or think about!
